Last update, now that’ve moved out: I lived in the Collective Old Oak for 2,5 years. Yes, the rooms are tiny, the area is a dump and the shared spaces are falling apart. I had a very happy period there when they still encouraged a community… But seems like management’s changed, all the original residents left and it became very boring. The cafe closed, the restaurant too, no one went to the parties anymore… For the price they charge and the location, it became a steal. There were quite a few infrastructure issues while I was there: slow internet, no hot water and the alarm going off all the time. So overall, I have great memories of living there, made true friends I see even after living the Collective. But the sense of community fell apart and I felt like living in a hotel, which I feel is what the new management wants: charging as much as possible for a tiny room and people going in and out as fast as possible too.
